Last of the Cowboys,
a documentary produced locally, in which
historian and producer Anita Witt interviews
some of the last of the old time cowboys in the
Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. These men
descended from original homesteaders who came in
search of land and livelihood and who ultimately
carved out the ranches that at one time
dominated the area. They recall a bygone era of
growing up, attending one-room schoolhouses and
often dropping out of school to help on the
ranch. Last of the Cowboys, in addition
to being an oral history, is an intriguing
insight into a way of life that is fast
disappearing.

Kannah Creek...The People, Their Stories & The
History
along with Whitewater...The People, Their
Stories & The History by Carol Anderson
explore this area in western Colorado near the
Grand Mesa. Times were tough in this arid part
of the country, and often residents’ primary
concern was that of survival. At home in the
Kannah Creek area for 35 years, Anderson has
compiled information from various sources such
as magazine and newspaper articles, books and
oral histories, as well as personal interviews
with descendants of the families who homesteaded
in the late 1800’s, to include in this two book
series.

Eleanor Roosevelt
presented by Susan Marie Frontczak in a
Chautauqua format. Set in 1937, meet first lady
Eleanor Roosevelt during the Great Depression
through a series of vignettes, witnessing
alternating glimpses into her public and private
personae. Mrs. Roosevelt moves back and forth
between an intimate setting of speaking off the
record with close friends and a podium setting
for her public addresses, discussing many of the
social programs begun at that time and which
still exist today. Presented, in part,
through a grant from Colorado Humanities.
